Scale-Up

Down Stream Pilot Plant

While smaller quantities of fermentation material from Development Fermentation are processed in the chemistry lab, larger scaled up quantities go to the downstream processing (DSP) pilot plant. Here the API is extracted from the filtrate or filter cake and is then subjected to further purification processes to yield a final product. The downstream pilot plant has flexibility in use for both scale up development work as well as the production of smaller commercial quantities of API.

The downstream pilot plant is a Class 1 Division 1 plant for flammable liquid processing. The equipment available for use in the downstream pilot plant includes glass lined reactors (80L to 380L), pilot scale basket centrifuge, rotary evaporator, Preparative HPLC System (150mm x 1000mm column), box filters and plate stack filters. Other equipment available for scale up work includes a decanter centrifuge and vacuum shelf dryer.
